Okay, I've got a few more questions that I've been getting, and now that I am pretty much caught up in terms of story, and events that have happened live, I am comfortable answering them. Anything that might be a spoiler if you haven't read the whole story will be marked as such.
Q: Okay, seriously, what is the Overseer?
-SPOILER DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE FINISHED PART 9-
A: Okay, I'll answer this one now that Part 9 is finished, since it was the big reveal for that plot point. The Overseer is a manifestation of MPD/DID for Amaterasu. A shard of her personality that broke off and became an altogether separate identity sometime between her enslavement and having become a capsuleer. The intense mental stress involved in actually becoming a capsuleer pilot has, effectively, widened the gap between the two personalities resulting the interactions and personality changeovers you have seen so far. It is an altogether separate personality with a different world outlook, but obviously the same memories, though it does believe itself to be what it is taken as: An Amarrian Overseer. It was a coping mechanism for Amaterasu, internalizing all of the familiar pain and struggle of slavery and bringing it with her because it is, after all, all that she understands.
Q: Are you one of those types who listens to music while writing?
A: Indeed I am. Every character in the story has music that I associate with them, which I tend to listen to when working on details or writing for them. I do this for RP characters as well, although that's just more because I tend to associate music with people than because I need to get in their heads which is not, after all, my job. Reimei, Amaterasu, Lilly, and Tyrias all have music that helps me get into their mindset though, which I frequently listen to when writing and roleplaying. Generally, when writing, I listen to music that isn't intrusive, which usually means instrumental piano and orchestral stuff, just to keep my mind going but not wandering.
Q: What's the holdup with Part 10?!
A: Part 10 is going to involve a bit of roleplay, and a lot of things that will happen outside the auspices of any ingame locale. The roleplay for Part 10 is not yet finished, which means that I can't do justice to what happens after it without the roleplay being finished, and I can't really put all the roleplay into context until it's far enough along, which it isn't just yet. Also, Part 10 will involve a couple of very involved hand-to-hand combat scenes. This is not my strong suit as a writer, and it means I've had to go back to the drawing board in a lot of senses. Silly as it is, I've been watching a number of martial arts films, straight up brawling fight scenes from other action films, and generally anything I can find that has a fistfight that I can watch a few times to get a feel for. Not to copy, but rather to get an idea for the language I would use to describe how it goes, as I want to do this properly. So, hopefully, Part 10 will begin in the next few days.
Q: Why minimize roleplay in Part 10?
A: This is something I've talked about rather a lot, and it's easily misunderstood. I love the roleplay that has happened so far, even when it's derailed plot points and changed character development, which has always ended up simply making things more fun. But, the downside of this, is that writing the story tends to be more of a secretarial job at that point. So, Part 10 will be a departure from this as more of a creative exercise, in seeing how roleplay will affect the way that it ultimately plays out, which also goes back to why I haven't started, as Part 10 will once again be a bit different than those that came before.
Keep the questions coming, and I will keep answering. Until then, hope you've all enjoyed reading!
